An outstanding modern sterling silver bowl

An outstanding modern sterling silver bowl
London 2018 by Nan Nan Liu

The polygonal smooth bottom standing on six sloped cylindrical feet. The widening wall following the bottom rim and passing into soft ribbed, ornamental and deviating waves.
In every respect a spectacular and outstanding work by one of Britain´s most talented silversmiths.

The creations of Nan Nan Liu rank without a doubt the best works of contemporary British artist silversmith works.
Her near unbelievable manual skills as well as her pronounced sense of form create art objects of an uncompared elegance and gracefulness. Having graduated from Birmingham, Nan Nan spent a year with Bishopsland Educational Trust, refining her technical skills, before embarking on her Masters degree at the Royal College of Art.
Nan Nan Liu won the Podolsky Prize in 2009 – Awarded by the Goldsmiths’ Company to the silversmiths judged to have the greatest potential. There is no doubt that her engraving skills are just extraordinary – whether she engraves spoons or works on a broader tableau – the end results are extraordinary. Her work is already in the Goldsmiths’ Company Modern Collection, and has a strong following amongst collectors. Nan Nan further specialised in the complex technique of layering which got in a sense her trademark: she refined the skill of soldering all the layers together in terms of creating an organic form which is engraved by hand at the solder lines.
