An outstanding modern sterling silver bowl,
\nLondon 2018 by Nan Nan Liu<\/p>\n

Smooth polygonal base, the widening side following the edge of the base and merging into subtly ribbed, ornamental, partially splitting waves. The base plate standing on six slanted, cylindrical feet.
\nNan Nan Liu’s silver objects and sculptures reflect her creative interest in the representation of natural forms and energies. This extraordinary work was created by sawing the silver into irregular frame formations of alternating sizes. The resulting frames were then individually soldered onto each other to create the final organically curved design. Nan Nan Liu draws her inspiration from nature, particularly from the repeating patterns and flowing shapes that water and air can take on when they interact.<\/p>\n

The creations of the young silversmith-artist Nan Nan Liu are among the most outstanding examples of contemporary British silversmithing. Her almost incomprehensible skill in craftsmanship as well as her distinctive sense of form create objects of art of outstanding elegance and beauty of form.
\nOne of her specialities, which has become her trademark, is the technique of layering: the overall appearance of the piece is formed by the silver, which is cut into very thin strips or – as is the case with this bowl – sawn, by soldering the strips of material onto each other layer by layer.The final refinement of the ribbed surface is achieved by manually recutting the solder strips with a graver.
\nHer works form part of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London<\/a> and the Modern Silver Collection of the Goldsmith’s Company, London, among others. Nan Nan Liu was already teaching during her training at the Bishopsland Educational Trust and graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2010. Her work has been honoured by many awards.<\/p>\n
