A Georgian sterling silver teapot on stand, London 1787

Item number: 60222

A George III sterling silver teapot on stand,
London 1787 by John Denziloe

Of elongated, octagonal shape the flat facets of the teapot framed at the edges by delicate ornamentation; the body finished with a decorative frieze at the top and bottom. The rim of the lid is adorned with engraved decoration that follows the shape of the side edges, rising slightly in the centre and crowned by a pineapple finial. The knob and the wooden handle on the reverse are made of dark wood, presumably stained boxwood or walnut. The smooth tubular spout tapering towards the tip and adorned by engraved decoration on both sides. The stand, resting on four paw-shaped feet, follows the decorative engraving of the teapot.

In its octagonal design a rare and exceptional teapot of great elegance and excellent craftsmanship. Also noteworthy the original stand has been preserved which in most cases has been lost or melted down over the centuries. The engraving is exceptionally well-preserved on all sides and shows no signs of wear.
