The Viennese silversmithy Eduard Friedmann
Founded in 1877, the silvermithy’s increasing expansion forced it to relocate several times within Vienna and, at its peak, employed 36 workers. In 1914, Eduard Friedmann was granted the privilege of bearing the imperial eagle in his shield and seal. In addition to studio designs, the Eduard Friedmann silversmithy also produced designs by Austrian world-class artists such as Otto Prutscher, Emanuel Josef Margold, Milla Weltmann, Hans Bolek and Alfred Pollak. These generated international attention and exports for the company. The regular participation in exhibitions of Austrian arts and crafts at the Austrian Museum of Art and Industry (now the Museum der angewandten Kunst, MAK) also brought additional fame. The Eduard Friedmann silversmithy was closed in 1920.
