A George III sterling silver teapot,
London 1786 by Henry Chawner
The oval body decorated with vertical ribs to all sides which merge into the flat shoulder with a correspondingly worked lid. The partially engraved lid rising to the oval baluster, which, like the handle, is made of ebony
In its simplicity and unadorned overall appearance, this Georgian sterling silver teapot from the end of the 18th century shows a very modern look. The pattern, reduced near solely to geometric design elements, illustrates the exemplary nature of classicist silverwork for objects inspired by cubist Art Nouveau, such as designed by the Wiener Werkstätte, as well as for Art Deco objects.
