A rare George I Britannia silver mug,
London 1715 by Seth Lofthouse
The body standing on a flared base ring, slightly narrowing towards the profiled lip rim. The handle with a subtle and probably contemporary monogram.
A museum-quality English mug of the early 18th century in excellent condition and with the original surface preserved. One of the earliest surviving mugs of similar design can be dated to around 1680 and is now in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. Other pieces by Seth Lofthouse are also held by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Another special feature of this early mug is its exceptionally rare size.
