A George III sterling silver tea caddy,
London 1792 by William Hall
The oval shaped body standing on a beaded base, the lower section with half fluted decoration on a matted ground. The smooth middle part terminated by two bands of beaded decoration which enclose a frieze of tendrils on a matted ground. The tea caddy is fitted with a flush hinged hallmarked cover with a smooth rim and domed centre showing a very fine frieze of leaves. The cover retains the original detachable pineapple style finial, securing to the interior with a screw fitting. The body displays a contemporary marital coat of arms to the front.
This Georgian solid sterling silver tea caddy is a very good gauge and in excellent presentation condition. The decoration is very clear to every part and shows no rubbing. The hinge is in notable good order and shows no wear and no damage. The tea caddy is fully hallmarked to the base and properly part hallmarked to the lid.
