Modernist cheese plate,
800 grade silver, Austria circa 1925
The silver frame enclosing the circular base of colourless glass being slightly bevelled at the edge. The handles on both sides describing a quarter circle and merging into the spherical ends which hold the bar shaped handles.
A modern looking cheese platter of the early Art Deco in original condition, whose extremely reduced overall design is clearly related to the silverware of the Wiener Werkstätte. Stamped on the side with toucan head in a hexagonal border and “4” for 800 silver and the letters “K” for Klagenfurt, as well as the maker’s mark (indistinct).
